MEMPHIS, Tenn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–lt;a href=”https://twitter.com/hashtag/culture?src=hash” target=”_blank”gt;#culturelt;/agt;–In honor of National Military Appreciation Month, ServiceMaster
(NYSE: SERV), a leading provider of essential services to residential
and commercial customers in the termite, pest control, cleaning and
restoration markets, is dedicated to increasing the number of
transitioning service members and veterans in their network of
well-recognized brands.
ServiceMaster leaders are preparing to launch specific partnerships with
veteran groups across the U.S., to share relevant job openings and
jointly market their efforts within the communities their frontline
employees already serve. From its global service center in Memphis,
Tennessee, ServiceMaster operates in more than 25 countries through an
extensive service network of more than 8,000 company-owned locations and
franchise license agreements.
“I understand the difficulty of translating one’s military skills so
civilian employers can clearly understand them,” said David Dart, chief
human resources officer for ServiceMaster and a former Lt. in the U.S.
Navy. “If you look specifically at those transitioning service members,
they possess both valuable leadership and operational skills that could
fill a variety of business needs throughout all levels of our
organization, making us better as a company.”
This past weekend, the company’s veteran appreciation group volunteered
with a chapter of Operation
Stand Down. The one-day event provided critical services to local
veterans and their families that included health screenings, housing
referrals and legal services. In the weeks prior, employees also
collected clothing and other essential items to donate to participating
veterans at the event.
“It has been wonderful partnering with ServiceMaster for the past two
years and we look forward to their continued support,” said William
Jones, founder and executive director of Operation Stand Down Mid-South
and a former Sgt. 1st Class with the U.S. Army. “We have
enjoyed their partnership and they are a valued partner not only to
Operation Stand Down but to the entire military community.”
According to The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, there are an
estimated 20.8 million living veterans with 250,000 transitioning
service members entering the civilian workforce every year. The National
Defense Research Institute reports some of the top skills they bring
with them include critical thinking, project planning, and
team-building, and they serve with a strong sense of integrity,
accountability and perseverance.
“These efforts truly embody our organization’s We Serve, We Care, and
We Deliver philosophy that we strive to achieve for both our
employees and customers every single day,” said Velvet Graham, senior
director of events and community relations for ServiceMaster, and
veteran Air Force Sgt.
National Military Appreciation Month (NMAM) is celebrated every May and
is a declaration that encourages U.S. citizens to observe the month in a
symbol of unity.
ServiceMaster’s veteran appreciation employee resource group sponsors a
variety of events throughout the year that serve employees and veterans
in the communities where they live, work, and play.
