Battelle Supports American Heart Association With $600,000 Grant

COLUMBUS, Ohio–(BUSINESS WIRE)–For 90 years, Battelle and its employees have been dedicated to making a positive impact on society. On National Philanthropy Day, Battelle announces a grant of $600,000 to the American Heart Association to support signature events and programs of the American Heart Association in Central Ohio (AHA) and in Battelle’s regional locations across the country. The grant will be distributed during the next three years and adds to the $7.1 million that Battelle donated to education and philanthropic causes during the past fiscal year.

“Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of all Americans, but we know 80% of these deaths are preventable through better lifestyle choices,” said Brenda Houston, executive director of the AHA in central Ohio. “We are so grateful for this generous support from Battelle. It will help us make impactful changes in the way our community approaches health through research, advocacy, education and awareness programs.”

Battelle will participate as a Life is Why sponsor at all 2020, 2021 and 2022 signature events: the Go Red for Women Luncheon, Heart Ball and Heart Walk. Battelle Chief Financial Officer Ed Grecco will continue to serve on the AHA’s central Ohio board of directors, and Battelle and Grecco will be the lead sponsor and chair for the 2021 Central Ohio Heart Walk.

“We know it’s important to weave healthy living practices into our lives as well as realize the importance of continued heart disease research,” said Grecco. “These are two reasons why we support the American Heart Association. I am personally looking forward to working with this great organization and I’m proud Battelle is supporting it in a way that has great impact.”
